Springmaid Splash 10K

This is one of the best trail races in our area. No one goes out to PR, which would be impossible, it's all about having fun. Brought Molly along with me as well as Summer and her daughter, Cassidy. Molly and Cassidy are on the cross country team together so they ran the 5K option for their Saturday work-out.

I just enjoy this run so much. Splashing through the river 4 times, tough climbs, steep descents, mud bogs. Totally awesome trail running experience. We even had to fight off killer bees this year :-)

I ran within my comfort zone the entire race. Not out to kill myself. I knew with the huge numbers ( over 300 in the 10K and about 250 in the 5K) there was no chance for me to win any age group hardware. I wasn't even close. I think I was 9th out of 18 in the 50-54 group. Lots of ladies out there. Also saw lots of people I knew. Enjoyed running with and chatting with David and Rhonda Lee (RD of Ridge to Bridge marathon) for a bit.

We all finish up and decide with the sheer numbers of runners that none of us won anything so we head on home. We later found out that Cassidy (12-13) and Molly (14-16) both took 2nd place in their age groups. Very proud of my Molly. She is shaping up to be a good runner.

  1. I really wanted to do this race, seems like such a fun time. My cousin had to go and get married that day. Hopefully next year.

Looks like I'll be running with you at Medoc! Have you done it before? It will be my first marathon, I hope.

  2. Just a drop by random stranger hello! I'm also a booky library type (Reference Assstant at the public library in Decatur, AL). I'm 50 years old and a slow runner, so you'll have company at the back of the pack! I see we both did the Chattanooga Stage Races back in June (the last day wiped me out!) and perhaps we will see/meet each other next week at the Norris Dam 50k or the New Year's Freedom Park Ultra. --heather

  3. Thanks for dropping by Ashley and h. My blog is pretty boring so I'm always amazed when someone actually comments on a post! Haven't run Medoc Ashley. Sounds like it's going to be fun and I'm looking forward to it.

h...that last day in Chattanooga totally killed me too. Took me almost 6 hours to run 20 miles. Good grief that was embarrassing. I'll probably be wearing my Sweetwater hat on Sunday and I'll be with a blonde lady and her 6 '6" tall state trooper husband. I'm sure we will be easy to pick out. Come say hi!
